Idaho female golf champ can still play with boys

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The board that oversees Idaho high school sports won’t bar a female golf champion from playing with the boys team if not enough girls turn out and form their own team.

Idaho High School Activities Association director John Billetz says there was just a single vote for the rule change at a meeting in Coeur d’Alene.

The proposal emerged after Castleford High School golfer Sierra Harr helped the boys team win the 2012 championship for Idaho’s smallest schools — and rival coaches complained.

Billetz says the board’s majority concluded Harr’s situation happens so infrequently, it didn’t merit a big change.

If enough girls turn out to form a Castleford girls team in 2013, Harr can play with them. If not, the 16-year-old junior can stay on the boys team.
