Battle Ground — The artistic abilities of 15-year-old Mariah Chavez won her top place in the 2013 Harvest Days Poster Contest on April 1. The Battle Ground home school student beat out the competition with her detailed pencil drawing of a cowboy riding a bucking bull, which fits perfectly with this year’s festival theme: “Wild, Wild West!” Chavez’s artwork will be used as publicity for the yearly Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce event. She’ll be given a framed copy of the piece during Harvest Days’ opening ceremony July 19. For more information on the celebration visit http://www.battlegroundchamber.org.
