SEATTLE — A Seattle police SWAT team and negotiators have responded to a motel in North Seattle after a bank robbery suspect barricaded himself inside a room.

Police spokesman Mark Jamieson says an officer was serving an arrest warrant on a woman Sunday afternoon when he discovered her staying with a bank robbery suspect.

Jamieson says that male suspect spotted the officer, ran into the motel room and refused to come out. The man told officers he would not leave and was holding his girlfriend hostage.

Police say it’s unclear whether the man has weapons but they’re taking him seriously. The floor where the man was staying was evacuated.

Jamieson did not have details about the bank robbery.
