LONDON (AP) — One of the top trainers from the renowned Godolphin stable has been charged with breaching rules relating to the use of prohibited substances in horses and will appear before a disciplinary panel on Thursday in one of the biggest doping scandals to hit British racing.
Mahmood Al Zarooni has also been charged with a failure to keep medication records and conduct prejudicial to horse racing after samples taken from 11 of his horses at stables in Newmarket were found to have contained traces of anabolic steroids.
The British Horseracing Authority hearing will take place in London, and Al Zarooni, one of two British-based trainers for Godolphin, could lose his license.
Godolophin is the racing organization of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum.
