MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Ball State basketball coach James Whitford hired Jason Grunkemeyer as an assistant Friday.
Grunkemeyer played at Miami (Ohio) and served as an assistant coach there from 2007-12. He spent the previous six seasons at St. Louis University. Last year, he was hired as athletic director at Talawanda High School, which is near Miami’s campus.
Grunkemeyer, a Cincinnati native, was recruited by Whitford out of prep football powerhouse Moeller and led the RedHawks to the 1998-99 Mid-American Conference title. He is still ranked in Miami’s top 10 in 3-pointers, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage.
It is the second hiring Whitford has announced in the past week. He also added former Florida star Brett Nelson as associate head coach.
