MOSCOW (AP) — The Interfax news agency says the former Russian Olympic official who was forced to quit in a scandal over preparations for the 2014 Sochi Winter Games has been diagnosed with high levels of arsenic in his blood.
The agency says the diagnosis of Akhmed Bilalov was made in a statement from the clinic of German doctor Wolfgang Kelling, where he is a patient. The clinic declined comment to The Associated Press on Monday.
Last week, the agency quoted Bilalov as saying he had been diagnosed with high mercury levels.
Bilalov resigned as deputy head of the national Olympic committee and as head of a state company operating ski resorts after Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded his dismissal. Putin was angered by delays and massive cost overruns.
