INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — One day after NBA player Jason Collins announced he was gay, NCAA President Mark Emmert urged university leaders to make their campus policies more inclusive.
He did not provide specific plans.
Emmert gave the opening remarks at Tuesday’s Inclusion Forum in Indianapolis, a three-day event in which university leaders will discuss issues ranging from acceptance of gay athletes to disabled athletes to gender equity.
Emmert has been under fire since announcing in January the NCAA botched an investigation into the University of Miami. Since then, the NCAA’s executive committee has given Emmert a “vote of confidence” amid calls for his ouster and there have been more departures from the enforcement staff.
On Tuesday, Emmert tried to get back to business by focusing on another part of his reform movement.
