Letter: ‘No’ to port’s crude oil proposal

The Columbian
Published: April 29, 2013, 5:00pm

I am gravely concerned about the proposed crude oil facility at the Port of Vancouver by the Tesoro company (“Port may host crude-oil facility,” April 23, The Columbian).

First, our port should not be partnering with industry that increases our community’s contribution to climate change.

Secondly, a cursory review of the Tesoro company shows a very poor track record of safety, just in Washington state only, including the Anacortes blast that killed seven workers.

And finally, we do not need more rail traffic risk in the Columbia River Gorge. One spill in the scenic area could devastate our regional treasure.

This proposal will bring a significant increase in rail traffic with crude oil. Say “no” to the crude oil proposal.

Attend the hearings process and make your voice heard.
