MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas State is back to defend is back to defend its Big 12 championship with new faces on both sides of the ball, none more important than the quarterback.

Heisman Trophy finalist Collin Klein has graduated and sophomore Daniel Sams entered fall camp in a race with junior college transfer Jake Waters for the starting nod.

Wildcats coach Bill Snyder says the winner may not emerge until the week of their first game. They open against defending FCS champion North Dakota State on Aug. 30.

There are plenty of other question marks on both sides of the ball as Kansas State rebuilds much of its defense. But one thing is clear: The Wildcats have no intention of falling to sixth in the league, where many have predicted them to finish.
