Clarification: Sen. Murray’s comments regarding sequester mischaracterized

The Columbian

An editorial under the headline “Sen. Murray is Off-Key” inaccurately characterized the efforts of Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., in regards to federal sequestration. The “In Our View” article appeared on Page A6 of Tuesday’s edition of The Columbian.

Murray often has stressed the impact that sequestration — across-the-board cuts to the federal budget — has on social-service programs. In a press conference Friday that was referenced in the editorial, she said, “For seniors, it’s meant cuts to Meals on Wheels. For vulnerable children in places like Seattle and Tacoma, it’s meant Head Start classes are cancelled.”

The editorial implied that Murray has not commented on social service cuts created by the sequester.
