PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Eagles have waived injured linebacker Phillip Hunt, trimming Philadelphia’s roster to 75 players as the preseason finale nears. The move was announced ahead of the NFL’s roster deadline Tuesday afternoon.

Hunt suffered an ACL tear during training camp at the team’s headquarters. If he clears waivers on Wednesday, he will return to the Eagles and be placed on injured reserve.

Hunt, 27, joined the Eagles in 2011, and figured to have a role in the team’s new 3-4 defensive scheme. He was making the transition from defensive end to outside linebacker.

Philadelphia will close the preseason on Thursday with a road date against the New York Jets.
