EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon junior cornerback Terrance Mitchell was ejected from the season opening game against Nicholls because of targeting.
Mitchell was escorted off the field Saturday after he hit Colonels quarterback Beaux Herbert late in the first quarter. The replay showed what appeared to be helmet-to-helmet contact.
Under a new NCAA rule this season, players who “target” and contact defenseless players will receive a 15-yard penalty and be ejected.
No. 3 Oregon had a 24-0 lead over the Colonels when Mitchell was ejected.
