INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Linebacker Daniel Adongo could get his first real chance to play American football Sunday at Cincinnati.

Indianapolis (8-4) promoted the Kenyan rugby star to the 53-man active roster Tuesday along with offensive lineman Xavier Nixon from the practice squad.

At 6-foot-5, 257 pounds, Adongo was such an intriguing prospect the Colts signed him just before training camp opened even though he had never played American football. When the season began, the Colts stashed him on the practice squad, giving him more time to adapt to his new sport.

To make room for Adongo and Nixon, the Colts put linebacker Mario Harvey and running back Daniel Herron on season-ending injured reserve.

Indy also signed fullback Robert Hughes and defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton to the practice squad.
