This one meant a little something more to the Fort Vancouver Trappers.

Fort coach Scott Thompson said feeling like a little brother to other Vancouver School District programs can get a team fired up.

Whatever the motivation, it worked.

William Doty scored 18 points and Tre Eisenhut added 15, leading the Class 3A Trappers to a 58-54 victory over Class 4A Skyview.

“It felt good. We made a big deal of beating ‘the big bad Skyview,’ for all the Trappers who have taken their lumps over the years,” Thompson said.

Doty was 8 of 12 from the floor. He also grabbed 13 rebounds.

He made his only two free throws with less than 30 seconds left, pushing the Fort lead back to five.

After a Skyview score, Eisenhut made one free throw to secure the win.

“We have been working hard in practice. We had not seen that on the court yet,” Thompson said.

Fort picked up its first win of the season.

“Tonight we improved, we saw us getting better,” the coach said. “That was the most important thing.”

Eisenhut added nine assists and four steals for the Trappers.

Tyler Hoffman led Skyview with 12 points. Marcus Lord had nine points and 12 rebounds.
