ISTANBUL (AP) — The Turkish Athletics Federation says it has cleared Olympic champion Asli Cakir Alptekin of doping violations.

The federation says it found no violations of doping rules by Alptekin, who won gold in the 1,500 meters at the 2012 London Olympics.

The probe was prompted by an IAAF request this year that Turkey investigate Alptekin and two-time European 100-meter hurdles champion Nevin Yanit for alleged doping violations.

In August, the federation banned Yanit from competition for two years.

Doping scandals in Turkey this year may have hurt Istanbul’s bid to host the 2020 Olympics. During the bid, Turkey maintained that the spate of doping cases were proof that the country was working hard to reduce cheating in sports.
