A 22-year-old Toledo man was charged with felony animal cruelty Monday after he allegedly killed his father’s goat with a bow and arrow to “make a sacrifice to God.”

Deputies arrested Kameron D. Williams Saturday afternoon after his uncle called police to report his nephew was “going crazy” and had shot a goat, slit its throat and was dragging it around, according to court documents. He had told his uncle that he wanted to “make a sacrifice to God,” according to the sheriff’s office.

When a deputy contacted Williams, he had blood on his arms and hands, according to court documents. The goat, named Betty, belonged to Williams’ father, who did not give his son permission to kill it. Williams later admitted to killing the goat but told the deputy it was for religious reasons.

He was charged Monday with first-degree animal cruelty and third-degree malicious mischief, according to court documents.
