At the same time that news broke that the federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) was being cut by $5 billion, another story on Dec. 25, “When cold can be comfort,” shows how great our community is.
Two local residents saw a need for larger refrigerators for the residents at Open House Ministries and stepped up and donated funds to enable this ministry to retrofit the apartments with new, larger refrigerators for the residents, many of whom are families with children. And a retired man donated his time to help install them. Now each unit allows the residents to shop for larger quantities of milk and make their funds go farther.
Thanks to both of these donors and to others who go unnoticed that give of their time, treasure and talents.
