Atkinson, UNC Asheville roll past Campbell 78-61

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Jeremy Atkinson scored 22 points, D.J. Cunningham added 17 and UNC Asheville took control early to defeat Campbell 78-61 Saturday and win its fifth straight game.

The Bulldogs (13-10, 7-2 Big South Conference) have won 12 of their past 16 games since opening the season 1-6.

UNC Asheville scored the first nine points and took a 38-22 halftime lead.

The Camels (10-13, 5-4), who came in tied for the North Division lead with High Point and Virginia Military Institute, shot 60.9 percent in the second half (14 of 23), but could get no closer than eight, at 44-36 with 15:25 remaining.

The Bulldogs shot 55.8 percent for the game (29 of 52) and scored 31 points off 20 turnovers. UNC Asheville has won 21 consecutive games against teams from the North Division.

Keith Hornsby added 14 points and Trent Meyer 12 for the Bulldogs.

Darian Hooker’s 18 points led Campbell.
