LAKEWOOD — The Mountain View Thunder still had the lead, even after going more than six minutes without scoring.

However, the struggles on offense continued throughout the fourth quarter, and Enumclaw ended the Thunder’s season with a 54-50 victory in the Class 3A boys basketball bi-district tournament at Clover Park High School.

“We battled. They have nothing to hang their heads about,” Mountain View coach Nate DuChesne said. “We got a lot out of our size and ability this year.”

Mountain View missed reaching the regional, the state’s final 16, by one game.

Tony Chynoweth scored 16 points, 11 in the second half, leading Enumclaw. The Hornets took the lead for good with a minute to go on Perry Rockwood’s 3-pointer to make it 51-49.

That came just seconds after Luke DuChesne’s 3-pointer for the Thunder.

The rest of the scoring came from free throws.

“They played hard,” the coach said. “They played their guts out.”

Akash Sanghera led Mountain View with 16 points. Taylor Drey added 15, and Luke DuChesne scored 13.

The game was tied at 23, 25, 27, and 29 before Mountain View would go on a 10-0 run for a 39-29 lead. But Mountain View would go more than six minutes without scoring.

Drey would end the drought with a tough baseline move to make it 41-38 Mountain View, but the Thunder would only make 4 of 13 shots in the fourth quarter.

“We worked hard to get the lead, and then gave it right back,” Nate DuChesne said. “That took a bit out of us.”
