Eastern Illinois beats Murray State 79-70

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Morris Woods scored 21 points and Sherman Blanford had 15 points and 14 rebounds Saturday night to lead Eastern Illinois to a 79-70 win over Murray State.

Josh Piper added 15 points for the Panthers (8-19, 5-9 Ohio Valley) and Alex Austin contributed 10 points.

The Panthers shot 56 percent from the field and made 7 of 12 3-point shots. They also hit 24 of 34 free throws.

Stacy Wilson led the Racers (18-7, 9-4) with 20 points. Dexter Fields scored 14, Isaiah Canaan had 12 points and Jeffery Moss scored 11 for Murray State, which was coming off a loss Thursday at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

At halftime, Eastern Illinois retired the No. 44 jersey of Henry Domercant, the school’s and Ohio Valley Conference’s all-time leading scorer with 2,602 points.
