Mount St. Mary’s defeats CCSU 89-80

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Rashad Whack scored 22 points and Julian Norfleet added 21 as Mount St. Mary’s defeated Central Connecticut State 89-80 Saturday to sweep their Northeast Conference season series.

The game featured a matchup of two players who had scored more than 40 points two nights earlier. Sam Prescott, who had 44 points for the Mountaineers (12-13, 7-7) in an 84-70 win over Bryant, had 18 this time. Kyle Vinales, who scored 42 for the Blue Devils (10-14, 6-7) in their 101-82 loss to Wagner, had 24 in this one.

CCSU led 44-43 early in the second half before Mount St. Mary’s ran off the next 11 points, with Whack scoring five and Prescott four.

The Blue Devils got to within 56-52 with 12:40 left, but Shivaughn Wiggins’ layup and Prescott’s 3-pointer restored a nine-point margin.

Brandon Peel had 13 points and 11 rebounds for CCSU. Matt Hunter also had 13 points.
