GEORGETOWN, Mass. (AP) — A bus carrying the University of Maine women’s basketball team ran off a highway north of Boston, leaving a player with a broken hand, the head coach with minor facial cuts and the driver seriously injured.

A university spokeswoman says the bus crossed a median on Interstate 95 at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, went across the northbound lanes and slid down an embankment in Georgetown.

Freshman guard Milica Mitrovic broke her hand and head coach Richard Barron was treated for facial cuts. All the players and staff were taken to three hospitals for observation and released early Wednesday.

Police say the driver may have had a medical episode. He was taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital.

The team was en route to play Boston University on Wednesday night. The game has been canceled.
