Hawaii holds off UC Santa Barbara 70-66

HONOLULU (AP) — Jace Tavita scored 17 points and Vander Joaquim had 16 points and nine rebounds Thursday night as Hawaii defeated UC Santa Barbara 70-66.

Hauns Brereton added 14 points and Isaac Fotu contributed 12 points for the Rainbow Warriors (17-11, 10-6 Big West). Hawaii was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line in the final 1:03 to seal the win, with Joaquim making six of those foul shots.

Hawaii was 24 for 30 from the free-throw line in the game and UC Santa Barbara was 20 for 27. Neither team led by more than eight points and there were 11 lead changes.

Kyle Boswell scored 27 points for the Gauchos (8-19, 4-11), who have lost nine of their last 10 games. Alan Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds, and Michael Bryson scored 11 for UCSB.
