LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Virginia Military Institute opened with a 43-8 run and went on to rout Shenandoah 110-54 Wednesday night in a nonconference mismatch.
The Keydets (5-7) had five players in double figures, led by Stan Okoye with 21 points. Tim Marshall scored 18 points, 15 on five 3-pointers. Rodney Glasgow added 11 points, and Dorian Albritton and Jarid Watson scored 10 apiece.
VMI’s opening 43-8 spurt included a 29-1 run.
Shenandoah, a local Division III team, had three players in double figures. Jared Carithers scored a game-high 22 points, Dante Serale added 11 and Shaquille Rodney had 10.
Shenandoah was outscored 52-0 in bench scoring. VMI had a 21-5 advantage in second-chance points and outscored Shenandoah 50-22 in the paint.
Virginia Military shot 57.1 percent from the floor (44 of 77), hitting 23 of 34 goal attempts in the first half (67.6 percent). The Keydets made 14 of 35 3-pointers.
