BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Mike Pettine has been hired as the Buffalo Bills new defensive coordinator and Nathaniel Hackett will be running the offense as part of newly hired coach Doug Marrone’s staff.

Pettine spent the past four seasons as the New Jets defensive coordinator, before turning down the team’s offer to extend his contract last season. He’s known for his aggressive approach, and has overseen a Jets defense that’s been among the NFL’s best.

Hackett will be following Marrone, Syracuse’s former coach, to Buffalo. Hackett has spent the past four seasons working as Marrone’s offensive assistant at Syracuse.

Hackett is familiar with the Bills. He previously served as the team’s offensive quality control coach from 2008-09.

The Bills announced the hirings on Thursday, three days after Marrone took over.
