Girls basketball: La Center 48, Kalama 28

Samantha Wise had 17 rebounds and added nine points as the Wildcats pulled away by dominating the final three quarters.

After trailing 15-14 following the first period, La Center outscored the Chinooks 34-13 the rest of the way.

“We were ahead 14-4, the next thing I know I look up and it was 15-14,” La Center coach Herm VanWeerdhuizen said. “The rest of the time we kind of shut them down.”

Katie Whitten led La Center with 19 points and added six assists and five steals. Andrea Griffey had seven steals as the Wildcats won despite being without two starters because of illness.
