Shumway — Two Vancouver teen violinists — who are siblings — were chosen to perform in MetroArts Inc.'s Young Artists Debut! concert April 9 in Portland. Vancouver School of Arts and Academics sophomore Lauren Siess, 16, and Skyview High School senior Michael Siess, 17, were two of eight classical musicians from the Northwest to win the 19th annual Young Artists Debut! The Van Buren Concerto Concert Competition. They'll spend the next three months getting coaching from Niel DePonte, conductor and music director for the Oregon Ballet Theatre. During the April concert at Portland's Newmark Theatre, Lauren will perform the first movement of Hindemith's "Der Schwanendreher," and Michael will play the first movement of Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto."
