HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) — Jamal Olasewere posted 30 points and a career-high 16 rebounds and C.J. Garner added 23 points to lead LIU Brooklyn past Fairleigh Dickinson 79-75 in overtime Thursday in Northeast Conference play.

Olasewere and Garner, who played high school basketball together, combined to make five 3s and 18 free throws. Melquan Bolding led Fairleigh Dickinson with 22 points.

Fairleigh Dickinson (7-11, 2-3) led 48-38 before LIU (7-10, 2-3) cut the deficit to 68-66 with 7 seconds remaining. Bolding was fouled and missed the second of two free throws, setting up Brandon Thompson’s game-tying 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

The teams exchanged baskets in overtime until Olasewere and Garner hit back-to-back layups to put LIU ahead 77-75 with 1:57 left. Fairleigh Dickinson missed its next five shots — including three layups — and two free throws as Garner sank two from the line with 11 seconds left to seal it.
