The U.S. Department of Energy has chosen Bill Drummond as the new head of the Bonneville Power Administration, the agency announced Wednesday.

Drummond, a 30-year veteran of the energy industry, joined BPA in 2011 as deputy administrator. He’ll take over as administrator, BPA’s top job, when outgoing Administrator Steve Wright retires early next month. Wright first announced his departure last June.

Drummond will oversee the federal power marketing agency that manages much of the Northwest power grid. In a statement released Wednesday, Drummond said he’s looking forward to leading an agency he called “the best expression of public vision and achievement.”

The BPA, based in Portland, employs more than 3,100 full-time workers, including many in Clark County. The agency has annual revenues exceeding $3.2 billion, according to the energy department.
