Letter: Focus on enlightenment

The Columbian
Published: January 20, 2013, 4:00pm

I was shocked by the Jan 12 letter from Donna Cooley, “How to help our country,” saying the troubles in the United States are caused by the wickedness of its citizens in not worshipping her god. The U.S. was not “dedicated” to a god in any way, shape or form. No one can make decisions for someone else, particularly to a god that part of the citizenry does not believe in. To have faith in a god that punishes innocent people for the deeds of another is beyond comprehension. This is a country of many faiths, none of which make any sense to a reasonable person. The first step toward enlightenment is to read your Bible.
