Three teams from Shahala Middle School are the only Clark County teams competing in the nation’s largest regional science bowl this weekend in Portland. The Bonneville Power Administration’s Regional Science Bowl is from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Franz Hall at the University of Portland. The free event is open to the public. Championship rounds begin at 4 p.m. in Buckley Auditorium. The top team will travel all-expenses paid to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl April 25-29.

Shahala teacher James Cantonwine coaches the teams. Shahala placed first at the regional meet and advanced to nationals the previous two years. They tied for fifth place at nationals in 2012, and placed second nationally in 2011.
