Florida Gulf Coast routs Stetson 96-65

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Sherwood Brown scored 21 points, surpassing 1,000 career points, to lead all five Florida Gulf Coast starters in double figures as the hot-shooting Eagles routed Stetson 96-65 Friday night, snapping the Hatters’ five-game winning streak.

Chase Fieler added 19 points, Bernard Thompson 14, Brett Comer 13 and Eric McKnight 10 for Florida Gulf Coast (14-8, 6-3 Atlantic Sun Conference), which posted its highest point total of the season. The Eagles shot 58.7 percent (37 of 63) compared to 40.7 percent (24 of 59) for Stetson.

Florida Gulf Coast never trailed and held the Hatters to only two points for a 5-minute stretch to lead 33-16. Stetson scored the next five points, but the Eagles pulled away with a 9-0 burst.

Stetson committed 21 turnovers, leading to 31 Florida Gulf Coast points.

Chris Perez scored 21 points and Adam Pegg added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Hatters (9-11, 6-3).
