Clark County has closed a 650-foot section of Northwest 179th Street due to a landslide threatening to undermine the north side of the roadway.

The slide is west of Northwest 41st Avenue. Drivers can detour south onto Northwest 169th Street between 41st and 51st avenues. Access on 179th Street will, however, remain open to homes in the area.

The road will remain closed until further notice, according to the county. Officials will study the condition of the road before determining how to shore up the slope with an interim or long-term repair. They’ll also determine whether the roadway could be opened to a single lane of traffic in the meantime.

The site overlooks Whipple Creek. About 900 vehicles use that section of 179th Street daily, according to the county.
