Northwestern State beats Lamar 85-63

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — DeQuan Hicks scored 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Northwestern State to its third straight victory in an 85-63 rout over Lamar on Thursday night.

Hicks was part of a Northwestern State (13-6, 7-2 Southland) bench which outscored the Cardinals’ bench 63-7. The Demons led 38-27 at halftime and were up by as many as 29 in the second half.

Tied at 10, the Demons went on a 10-0 run capped off by an O.J. Evans dunk with 9:30 to play in the first half and Northwestern State never looked back.

Stan Brown had a career-high 28 points for Lamar (2-19, 0-9) and grabbed 12 rebounds. Rhon Mitchell had 15 points and six rebounds.

Northwestern State shot 49.3 percent from the field and forced the Cardinals to turn the ball over 23 times. The Demons had 22 assists as a team.
