CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians starter Zach McAllister pitched a three-inning simulated game, a significant step in his recovery from a finger injury.

McAllister has been on the disabled list since June 8 with a sprained right middle finger.

On Monday, McAllister threw fastballs and change-ups to minor league hitters brought in to face the right-hander before the Indians played the finale of their four-game series against Detroit. Indians manager Terry Francona said McAllister pitched well and without any symptoms. He will throw breaking balls on flat ground Tuesday, and as long as there are no setbacks, the Indians will decide on the next step in his rehab.

Francona said McAllister (4-5, 3.43 ERA) will either throw another simulated or make a minor league rehab appearance. He could rejoin Cleveland’s rotation after the All-Star break.
