CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Baseball cards depicting George H. W. Bush as a Yale first baseman have sold for thousands of dollars since they were specially produced in 1990. But experts now believe they were not part of the set presented to the president.

The Topps trading card company originally said only 100 cards were produced and given to the White House. Former White House chief of staff John Sununu recently sent the cards Bush gave him to an authentication company for grading. The company realized they were covered with a clear coating not on the other Bush cards in circulation.

The company, Professional Sports Authenticator, says an unknown number of uncoated cards were produced at the same time and somehow ended up in circulation.
