KWRL (Centerfield) 18U got hot at the right time.

The team composed of players from Woodland, Ridgefield and La Center captured the Senior Babe Ruth state title by winning four games in two days.

Tuesday, Centerfield defeated Prairie Hardball twice to qualify for the Pacific Northwest Regional tournament, which begins Monday in Klamath Falls, Ore.

After being knocked into the losers bracket Sunday, Centerfield had no room for error. Monday, they beat J.H. Kelly of Kelso 4-2 before defeating 3 Rivers of Tri-Cities 4-0. Isaiah Block pitched a complete game in the nightcap.

That set up a championship matchup Tuesday against Prairie, which only needed to win once.

Centerfield forced a second championship game with an 8-5 victory, then claimed the title by winning 10-4.

With three home runs over the final four games, Josh Soske was the Centerfield star on offense.
