Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey can breathe easy in Portland, since he doesn’t have to deal with nonsense like this out of Los Angeles.

Olshey’s former organization, the Los Angeles Clippers, is in full damage-control mode after owner Donald Sterling intimated that the firing of head coach Vinny Del Negro was done to appease point guard Chris Paul.

The All-Star reportedly grew “angry” at the franchise. So to further pacify Paul, the man who now holds Olshey’s old job has claimed that only the Clippers made the choice.

“The decision not to extend a contract to Vinny Del Negro was an organization decision from the top down,” team vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks told ESPN.com “Our front office evaluated the season and Vinny’s three years here before making this move, and our conclusion and feeling was that we needed a change.”

Portland: more granola, less drama than L.A.

The last woman standing from the inaugural WNBA season will take her bow after this season.

This weekend, Seattle Storm forward Tina Thompson announced her pending retirement from the WNBA. Thompson, 38, has played all 17 years of the league’s existence and even won four straight titles as a member of the Houston Comets.

Besides the championships, Thompson has distinguished herself as the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer (7,018 points) and a gold-medal winning Olympian.
