YAKIMA — A woman was killed in a house fire overnight at Yakima.

The East Valley Fire Department says the fire started about 1 a.m. Thursday while a husband and wife were at home.

The chief tells KNDO the man escaped and thought his wife was outside, too. When he realized she was still inside he ran back to a window. But she collapsed and didn’t make it out.

Arriving firefighters found flames shooting 30 feet high. It took about an hour to put out the fire.
