DETROIT (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have signed left-hander J.C. Romero to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus.

The 37-year-old Romero allowed 12 earned runs in 12 innings last year for the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles. Prior to that, he’d pitched for the Colorado Rockies, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins in his career.

Romero had a 2.84 ERA in 13 relief appearances for Washington’s Triple-A affiliate at Syracuse this season before electing free agency. He also appeared in five games for his native Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

Romero also signed a minor league deal with Cleveland in the middle of last season. In 25 appearances for Columbus, he went 1-0 with a 2.74 ERA.
