BEND, Ore. — An 87-year-old man whose SUV crashed Monday off the second-floor parking area at a Bend medical facility has died.

Richard Theodore Marsellos of Powell Butte had been in critical condition at St. Charles-Bend hospital, where he was taken after the nearby crash.

Police say he had parked while his wife was inside medical facility. He apparently suffered a medical emergency.

KTVZ reports his SUV accelerated backward into two parked cars and then accelerated forward through a guardrail and plunged about 15 feet to the ground below.

Construction workers who heard the crash got him out of the car while paramedics responded.
