Letter: Marijuana has many consequences

I am a middle school student in Vancouver concerned about marijuana use. I recently heard a presentation on the effects of marijuana, and I was surprised that most people didn’t know about these things. I would like to let you know about the consequences marijuana brings.

Lots of people smoke it as a depression reliever. Although it gives them short-term relief, the depression comes back worse than it was before. Another result is that you are more likely to get schizophrenia, and once you have it, it will never go away.

My opinion is that marijuana should not be legal because it has horrible consequences, and when people buy marijuana, it is usually over the amount that is legal anyway. In the long term, marijuana might even kill you.
