AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Pistons have drafted North Texas forward Tony Mitchell with the 37th pick in the NBA draft.

The 6-foot-8 Mitchell averaged 13 points and 8.5 rebounds last season as a sophomore for the Mean Green. He is also the school’s career and single-season record holder for blocked shots.

Mitchell was a finalist for the Lou Henson Award for the mid-major player of the year in 2011-12, when he averaged 14.7 points as a freshman. That season, he was one of two freshmen to average a double-double — the other was Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, the No. 1 pick in the draft in 2012.
