SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks have signed defenseman Jason Demers to a one-year contract to prevent him from becoming a restricted free agent next month.

General manager Doug Wilson announced the deal Thursday. Demers is the third potential restricted free agent signed this week by the Sharks, joining forwards James Sheppard and Andrew Desjardins.

Demers had one goal and two assists in 22 games last season as he was hampered by a variety of injuries. Demers played just one playoff game after spraining his ankle late in the regular season.

The 25-year-old Demers has 11 goals and 50 assists in 205 career games with the Sharks.

The Sharks also re-signed minor league forward Brodie Reid to a one-year contract.
