Michael Siess, a senior at Skyview High School, has won a $500, second-place scholarship in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra‘s 19th annual Young Artists Competition.

Siess was one of eight winners, and the only one from Washington.

The competition was held Sunday through a special concert at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver.

The three first-place winners were Andrew Yoon, Megan Yip and Isabel Skau, all of Portland. Each got a $1,000 scholarship and a chance to perform with the VSO in the orchestra’s May 25 and 26 concerts at Skyview Concert Hall.

Nathan Kim of Newberg, Ore., and Savannah Gentry of Eugene, Ore., also each got second-place scholarships. And Vivia Chi of Happy Valley, Ore., and Maia Hoffman of Portland, each won a third place $250 scholarship.
