Eastern Michigan beats Miami (Ohio) 58-47

CLEVELAND (AP) — Derek Thompson scored 14 points as Eastern Michigan used a team effort to beat Miami (Ohio) 58-47 Wednesday night in the second round of the Mid-American Conference tournament.

Daylen Harrison added 11 points, Da’Shonte Riley and Glen Bryant tallied 10 apiece, and J.R. Sims chipped in eight for the seventh-seeded Eagles, who snapped a two-game skid with a 45-44 with over 10th-seeded Northern Illinois in the opening round.

Eastern Michigan (16-17) led 28-25 at the break and opened the second half on a 12-4 run to pull away. Thompson scored four points during the run, and Eastern Michigan led by at least 10 the rest of the way.

Will Felder and Jon Harris scored 14 points apiece for 11th-seeded Miami (9-22) but leading scorer Allen Roberts was held to six points on 1-of-7 shooting.

Eastern Michigan will take on third-seeded Western Michigan on Thursday at 9 p.m.
