NEW YORK (AP) — A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the New York Jets have signed former San Diego Chargers nose tackle Antonio Garay to a one-year deal.

Garay, 33, spent the last three-plus seasons with the Chargers after being signed off the Jets’ practice squad in December 2009. He was scheduled to make $3.5 million plus a $1.5 million roster bonus this season, but was released by San Diego earlier this week.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the signing, first reported by WFAN Radio and ESPN.

Garay played in just eight games last season, but will add depth to the Jets’ defensive line after New York cut Sione Po’uha and Mike DeVito signed with Kansas City.
