A 1-year-old boy fell from a second-story apartment window about 3:30 p.m. Sunday and was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, said Sgt. Fred Neiman of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened at the Steeple Chase Apartments, 4617 N.E. St. Johns Road. Neiman said the child pushed against a window screen and fell onto soil.

Neiman said the extent of the injuries was not known but the child was alert and crying when crews arrived from the Vancouver Fire Department and American Medical Response.

“It appears this incident is accidental in nature,” Neiman said. “However, a police report will be filed with Child Protective Services, which is standard protocol.”

The child’s and parents’ names were not released.
