I want to pay my respects to Kathie Durbin, the former Columbian reporter who recently passed away. During the years I served in Congress, I had many occasions to interact with Kathie and always found her to be dedicated to not only reporting but to truly understanding the facts, the issues and the people.
She was a tough questioner, as her job demanded, but she was also a fair and objective reporter as the paper and the public deserve. Her personal commitment to our community and region was always evident. Her commitment to her profession and to the service she and journalism provide was evident in her effort and her countless reports. This newspaper and our community were fortunate to benefit from her work. She will be deeply missed.
