Royals play long ball to beat Diamondbacks, 11-10

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Alex Gordon, Billy Butler and Elliot Johnson homered to power the Kansas City Royals to an 11-10 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Gordon homered on Randall Delgado’s third pitch, while Butler homered two batters later. Johnson hit a two-run homer in the fifth, doubled and drove in three runs.

Paul Goldschmidt drove in four Diamondback runs, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and a sacrifice fly. Miguel Montero hit a two-run homer in the Diamondbacks’ five-run seventh, while Alfredo Marte homered in the eighth to tie the score.

Jarrod Dyson singled in the ninth, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on George Kottaras’ two-out single. Kottaras went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two walks.

Royals starter Ervin Santana allowed four runs, two unearned, on six hits and a walk over six innings. Delgado permitted six runs on nine hits, including three home runs, and four walks in five innings.
